Rathbun Lake, a 11,000 acre recreational opportunity, is situated 8 miles northwest of Centerville, Iowa in Appanoose County. Over 1 million visitors visit the lake and take part in many of the amenities, such as: boating, tubing, waterskiing, fishing, swimming, beaches, picnic areas, trails, camping, cabins, Rathbun Fish Hatchery and Honey Creek Resort, and many others. The maximum depth of Rathbun Lake is approximately 50 feet, as of 2008. It is not uncommon for online reservations for many of the amenities at Rathbun Lake to be sold out. Visitors should reserve camping and other facilities as soon as possible so that they can secure their vacation dates! If you’re an angler, popular fish species at this lake are Black Crappie, Channel and Flathead Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Warmouth, White Bass, and Wiper.
