The Iowa Tourism Office in a Dec. 2 Travel Iowa email proclaimed Centerville to be the third best must shop downtown district out of their 12 best must shop downtown districts in the state of Iowa.
Pella came in second and Cedar Falls finished first. Rounding out the list is Valley Junction in West Des Moines fourth, Iowa City downtown district fifth, Decorah sixth, Sioux City seventh, Clear Lake eighth, Ames ninth, Cedar Rapids 10th, Algona 11th and Le Mars 12th.
Sarah Lind, Centerville-Rathbun Lake Area Chamber of Commerce director, said the Iowa Tourism list proves the small town of Centerville is an unique and special place to shop.
“I think this just shows that small towns are thriving and growing and we have so many fun, different little boutique stores here that we can compete with the bigger towns. All the more reason to stay in town to shop local,” Lind said. “I think we have things for everyone, young and old.”
Lind talked about the list and how the city has not always been ranked so high.
“It’s good to be at the top and for something positive,” Lind said. “So I think this is good momentum to take us into 2017 as we think about goals and what we want to be known for and being known as a top 12 must shop downtown district is amazing, I think. It’s fun. It gives me a good holiday feeling.”
