AEDC Appreciates Northeast Power Cooperative Being A Member

Monday, November 21, 2016

As the premiere transmission cooperative located in Appanoose County, Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative currently has fifty-six employees. Started in 1948, Northeast Power was founded by three rural electric cooperatives in order to generate and transmit those cooperatives with reliable and affordable electricity. In 1961, Northeast Power joined with five other generation and transmission cooperatives to form Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. Today, Associated is now one of the nation’s largest wholesale power suppliers while maintaining some of the lowest rates in the United States. Northeast Power Cooperative maintains a service territory in southeast Iowa and promotes available sites and opportunities as a means to spur economic development. Northeast Power also provides transmission lines to Chariton Valley Electric and Southern Iowa Electric Cooperatives; both of which provide electricity to rural residents in Appanoose County. Appanoose Economic Development Corporation works closely with Northeast Power Cooperative on many projects and because Northeast Power Cooperative is a significant member of AEDC.
