Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) “is a transmission cooperative comprised of eight Member-Distribution Cooperatives with five located in northeast Missouri and three in southeast Iowa.” While Northeast Power’s headquarters is located in Missouri, two of its eight cooperatives serve Appanoose County, Iowa, with electricity: The Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative in Albia and the Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative based in Bloomfield. The company has fifty-six employees.
Along with its mission of distributing electricity, Northeast Power supports a number of economic development programs, including providing financial assistance to economic development organizations in its service region, sponsoring an Entrepreneur Development program and an Academy that provides opportunities for training in economic development, participating in business attraction marketing, and assisting businesses with expansion in its Key Accounts program. The company has a dedicated Manager of Economic Development, Gordon Ipson, who moves these initiatives forward.
