Camping at Rathbun Lake
Monday, June 29, 2015
If you like camping, check out Rathbun Lake in the northwestern corner of Appanoose, Iowa. The lake, which is 11,000 acres, has over 700 campsites.
There are 8 campgrounds around the lake, 5 of which are managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These sites include Rolling Cove, Prairie Ridge, Bridge View, Island View, and Buck Creek. The Honey Creek campground is operated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. A private organization, Rathbun Marinas, runs the campgrounds at Buck Creek Marina and Southfork Marina.
Campsites meet the comfort levels of a variety of campers, with electric and non-electric sites, pull-through and group sites. All of the campgrounds have dump stations and shower stations. Other amenities to be found at certain campgrounds include fish cleaning stations, boat ramps, playgrounds, boat slips, and picnic shelters.
If you want a life-long challenge, why not put staying at every Rathbun Lake campsite on your bucket list?
