An incentive for reducing energy consumption
Monday, September 25, 2017
Energy is required to perform a countless number of daily tasks, from making a cup of coffee to checking email. Reducing energy consumption is an important goal since the planet has a finite amount of natural resources.
Centerville has a wonderful opportunity to work with Alliant Energy to learn how to decrease the town’s energy usage. Though the Hometown Rewards grant program, Centerville leaders will work with Alliant Energy to set energy-saving goals and identify actions to help meet them during a two-year period.
If the city succeeds in meeting its goals of 4 percent reduction in residential energy use and an 8 percent reduction in government energy usage, it will be rewarded with $11,000 to use towards a project aimed at improving energy efficiency. Past funded projects include LED street lights and solar panels for a town library.
