Ensuring safe and affordable housing

In the last couple of decades, affordable housing has become increasingly difficult to find. It's not uncommon for lower income households to spend 50 percent of their income on rent.
This makes programs like the Chariton Valley Housing Regional Trust Fund (CVHRTF) all the more relevant. CVHRTF helps provide safe and affordable housing to low and moderate-income residents in Appanoose County Iowa and beyond.
The nonprofit provides grants or loans for home improvements and repairs. It also has a sustainable new home construction program in Appanoose County. Under the program, when a vacant house is removed, a new home is built on the property and designated for sale to a lower income family.
