The Appanoose Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) mission is to facilitate the retention, expansion, attraction, and creation of businesses and jobs in Appanoose County, and collaboratively work to enhance the overall business climate of the county.
AEDC serves Appanoose County by:
- Providing support and resources to existing and prospective industries and businesses
- Supporting a strong entrepreneurial environment
- Marketing Appanoose County to attract new commercial and industrial development opportunities
Incorporated as a private, non-profit 501(c)(6) corporation on April 3, 1986, AEDC's work was initially led by volunteer community leaders. Among many achievements, these individuals helped establish the Centerville Industrial Park and attract such industries as Lee Container, Barker Company and Wells Manufacturing.
In 2003, AEDC's board of directors hired its first full-time, countywide executive director dedicated to serving the needs of local business and industry. AEDC remains governed by a volunteer board of directors, who are elected by AEDC membership or appointed by the board in the case of an unexpected departure, and guided by organizational bylaws.
Throughout AEDC's history, it has worked closely with the Appanoose Industrial Corporation (AIC) to attract new business and industry to the county.
